Initial Steps to Register for a Course

The Forensic Tests for Alcohol (FTA) Branch, the state agency responsible for providing breath alcohol testing courses in North Carolina, has partnered with the NC Justice Academy on a shared web-based registration and certification database designed for efficiency of student use, for every law enforcement officer in the state.

Prospective students must log in to their account at the NC Justice Academy Training Portal and complete the following steps:

  1. Type in the acronym FTA for a list of available courses offered by the Forensic Tests for Alcohol Branch.
  2. Click on the course of your choice.
  3. If you are intending to register, complete your Attestation of Good Character form (updated 7/23/20) and upload it when prompted.
  4. Follow the prompts indicated on your screen.

For questions on specific FTA courses, email FTAtraining@dhhs.nc.gov.

Note: Effective July 2019 and in partnership with the Department of Justice and the NC Justice Academy, the Forensic Tests for Alcohol Branch will implement its automated student enrollment and certification system for Intox EC/IR II courses. Offered to law enforcement officers, registration is located on the North Carolina Justice Academy Training Portal. The new system, powered by the Acadis Readiness Suite software program, offers self-service features, a complete audit trail, and legally-defensible training records.
