Cervicitis
Cervicitis is the inflammation of the cervix (the opening of a woman's uterus, or womb). It can be caused by infection or by other conditions. It is sometimes caused by chlamydia, gonorrhea or trichomoniasis infection. Women with cervicitis may or may not experience symptoms.
Because cervicitis might be a sign of upper-genital-tract infection (endometritis), women who seek medical treatment for cervicitis should be checked for signs of PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) and should be tested for STDs and other infections to determine the cause and appropriate treatment. Sexual partners may also require treatment to prevent reinfection.
