Program Collaboration and Service Integration (PCSI)
Through its National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention, the Centers for Disease Control created PCSI — Program Collaboration and Service Integration 
— as a way to better coordinate and integrate prevention, treatment and care services for sexually transmitted infections.
North Carolina is one of only six areas in the country to receive PCSI funding for the three-year project, which will end Sept. 29, 2013. The plan calls for four counties to participate. The selected counties are Wake, Pitt, Buncombe and Mecklenburg.
With the ultimate goal of preventing the spread of sexually transmitted infections, the four PCSI counties are working to ensure that high-risk patients with symptoms of a transmissible disease are tested for HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, Hepatitis C and, in some locations, tuberculosis. Followup counseling and appropriate treatment is provided for those who test positive.
