Suggested Project Plan Tasks

  1. Review the N.C. Division of Public Health Requirements for Communicable Disease and Blood Lead ELR and have a planning discussion with the N.C. Division of Public Health (contacts). You may find it beneficial to have this discussion prior to seeking ONC Certification of your ELR-to-Public Health interface.
  2. Conduct self-service testing of your ELR interface module for conformance to the applicable HL7 Implementation Guide using this tool External link.
  3. Have the NC EDSS ELR Coordinator review your mappings of local codes to the required standard coding systems for the tests, test results and specimen sources that are reportable via this interface.
  4. Install the PHINMS message transport software. Exchange PHINMS connectivity information and configure the PHINMS route for sending to the NC EDSS test environment.
  5. Transmit a small test file to test for general compliance to transmission and message formats. Resolve issues per feedback from the N.C. Division of Public Health.
  6. Transmit additional test files that test reportable lab results for a variety of reportable diseases. Resolve issues per feedback from the N.C. Division of Public Health.
  7. Transmit production files to the NC EDSS test environment. Resolve issues per feedback from the N.C. Division of Public Health.
  8. Transmit reportable lab results to the NC EDSS production environment on an ongoing basis.
